SQL Formatter / Beautifier

Indent:

How It Works

This SQL formatter parses your raw SQL string, identifying reserved keywords (like SELECT, WHERE, JOIN), functions, and structural symbols. It then applies standard formatting rules, adding newlines and indentation to make the code hierarchy clear. Crucially, this process happens entirely within your browser (client-side), ensuring your data is never uploaded to any server.

Common Use Cases

Code Review

Standardize SQL style before committing code, making peer reviews easier and ensuring consistency across the team.

Debugging Complex Queries

When dealing with nested queries hundreds of lines long, formatting helps visualize JOIN relationships and filter logic instantly.

Log Analysis

SQL copied from server logs is often a single unreadable line. Use this tool to restore its structure for easy troubleshooting.

FAQ

Is my SQL data safe?
Absolutely. This tool is a pure frontend application. All formatting logic runs locally in your browser (Client-side only), so your potentially sensitive SQL queries never leave your device.
Which SQL dialects are supported?
The tool uses standard ANSI SQL syntax, supporting most common databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and MariaDB. It also provides basic formatting for Oracle PL/SQL and SQL Server T-SQL.
Can it uppercase my keywords?
Yes. Just check the "Uppercase Keywords" box in the toolbar, and the tool will automatically convert keywords like SELECT, FROM, WHERE to uppercase, even if they were typed in lowercase.
Does it work if my SQL has syntax errors?
Yes. The formatting is based on lexical analysis (keyword matching) rather than strict syntax parsing. So even if your query is incomplete or has minor errors, it will try its best to format it.
Can I compress/minify SQL?
Yes. Click the "Minify" button to remove all newlines and extra spaces, merging your query into a single line. This is useful for embedding queries as strings in your code.
Are stored procedures supported?
Partially. It handles standard blocks like BEGIN...END and basic control flows (IF, CASE) reasonably well via indentation, though highly complex proprietary syntax might not be perfectly aligned.
Why aren't some long lines wrapped?
The tool prioritizes structural clarity based on keywords. If you have long string literals or comments, the tool avoids breaking them to preserve data integrity, so they may remain on one line.
Is this free?
Yes, it is 100% free to use for all developers.
